How to choose the best saltwater chlorinator for your swimming pool in Gold Coast and Brisbane?

When selecting a salt water chlorinator for your swimming pool, there are several key factors to consider to make the best choice for a clean and enjoyable swimming experience and easy maintenance of your pool. First of all, you have to assess the size of your pool and choose a chlorinator that matches its capacity, this will ensure optimal chlorine generation. Secondly, it is important to choose self-cleaning chlorinator with user-friendly controls and clear display for easy monitoring and adjustments. Some people are used to chlorinators with analog timers, chlorine output control knob and manual On/Auto/Off switch, whereas others prefer fully digital pool chlorinators which can display error messages, show pool water temperature, have pool pump protection from running dry feature and lots of other extra control options which make your pool maintenance much easier. Finally, the most crucial steps is to choose a reputable brand and good quality saltwater chlorinator as this is a long-lasting investment into your swimming pool filtration.

What size (capacity) pool chlorinator is the best for my pool?

Most chlorinators designed for residential pools in Australian market generate between 15-50g/hour chlorine output. Some of the most popular chlorinator sizes used in swimming pools in Gold Coast and Brisbane are 20g, 25g and 30g. Some larger pools may have 35g or 40g units. We normally recommend choosing chlorinator size by simple calculation of 1gram for every 2000L pool water, therefore if your pool is 48,000L you divide the size by 2000L and find out that you need minimum 24g/h unit. Therefore, the closest option available would be 25g/hour chlorinator. Also, there is nothing wrong in going a bit higher with chlorinator size as you can always reduce chlorine output to keep your pool balanced. On the other hand, if you install a smaller size chlorinator on a large pool it may still do a decent job in winter, but you may require to run your chlorinator with the pool pump a lot longer in summer months to meet higher chlorine demand. So it may sound cheaper to buy 20gram chlorinator for your 80,000L pool, but unfortunately it will be struggling in summer to maintain good chlorine levels in your pool. Then you will have to run your pool equipment long hours and even buy and additional chlorine to keep it clear and clean. Therefore, going significantly lower in size when choosing your saltwater chlorinator in Gold Coast and Brisbane climates is not recommended, whereas choosing optimal size of your chlorinator will ensure that your pool is crystal clear all year round, you don’t waste your money running your pool pump extra hours or buying additional chlorine from the local pool shop.

Self-cleaning or standard (non-self-cleaning) chlorinator

We recommend and supply mainly self-cleaning (reverse-polarity) chlorinators. It may look a bit cheaper to buy a non-self-cleaning chlorinator, however they require very frequent cleaning of the salt cell especially if you own a concrete pool and this can make pool maintenance a lot harder.

Choosing good quality and reliable saltwater chlorinator

There is a wide range of chlorinators offered by different manufacturers in Australian market. Most of them have their strengths and weaknesses. We normally recommend choosing chlorinators from well-established manufacturers offering good quality products with good warranties and parts available. Some of the well-known brands we supply, install and repair are Astral Pool, H2Flo, Zodiac, Crystal Clear, CrystalChlor, Evolution, Waterco, Hayward, Xtreme, Kchlor, PoolPro, Pentair, Autochlor and Davey.
